Scouting Report: Juan Rodríguez
A star in the making with the potential to be a world class talent in the near future.
At only 19 years old, the Uruguayan center back is already emerging as a top prospect and someone to put an eye on for the upcoming football seasons.
Currently playing the South American Youth Football Championship as a starter for his country, Rodríguez is looking sharp and mature despite his young age, as his recent performances for both national U20 team and Boston River have been very consistent.
In the start of last year the defender went on loan to the previously mentioned club to pick up his first minutes in professional football at age 18. At the end of the season, he ended up being one of the best players in his position in all Uruguayan League and undoubtedly one of the most notable U20 stars of the whole tournament.
Aiming to follow the footsteps of Diego Godin, Ronald Araujo and Jose Maria Giménez by establishing himself as a Uruguayan center back in the elite of the sport, Rodríguez profile is even more complete than the three mentioned above.
A tall, quick, technical defender who can also play as a left back, is a duel winning machine and masters the act of timing by reading the game well is a reasonable description although it may not sound realistic for a player who is not even fully developed yet due to his lack of experience.
After the end of the current tournament that he is taking part of, the young CB is expected to be sold by Peñarol (his current club) as many multi millionaire offers by top worldwide football institutions are expected to arrive in the upcoming weeks. Shakhtar Donetsk, Atletico Madrid and more than one Italian club have been rumored to be scouting and planning to make a move for him soon.
